Professor Piotr Fryzlewicz has been appointed joint editor of Series B of the Royal Statistical Society's journal, from the beginning of 2014. He succeeds Gareth Roberts, professor of statistics at the University of Warwick.
Piotr graduated in 2000 with a Master of Science degree in mathematics from Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland. He then obtained a doctorate in statistics from the University of Bristol in 2003. Since then, he has worked at Imperial College London, the University of Bristol, Winton Capital Management and, most recently, the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he has been Professor of Statistics since 2011. In 2013, he was awarded a Guy Medal in Bronze by the Society for his contributions to time series research.
Piotr has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B, the Journal of the Korean Statistical Society, the Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics and the Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference. In 2011–2012, he served as Secretary of the Research Section Committee of the Society. Piotr's research interests lie in multiscale modelling and estimation, time series (especially non-stationary time series), high dimensional statistical inference and dimension reduction, statistical learning, data visualisation, statistics in finance, the social sciences and neuroscience. He is an active statistical consultant and an Associate Member of the Oxford–Man Institute of Quantitative Finance.
