The Royal Statistical Society will be staging an early evening meeting to discuss ‘The Future of the Retail Prices Index (RPI)’.

We are delighted that this discussion will be started by the UK’s National Statistician (John Pullinger CStat).

A limited number of speaking slots, from the lectern, will be available for those who have particular expertise in RPI-related issues and who would like to follow John Pullinger in addressing the meeting. If you are interested in contributing to the discussion in this way, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as soon as possible; thank you.

We ask that everyone who wishes to speak should ideally prepare and submit, by 1st June, a note of up to 800 words which sets out the point/s they wish to make. All such contributions, whether or not you are able to speak on the day, can then be published via the RSS's website, on a page which will be devoted to this meeting. The combination of these written contributions and the video-filming of this event will help to provide an authoritative record of the discussion that takes place.

Further details about the event, and how you can get involved in this important debate, will be sent asap to all those who register below.

Those unable to attend the meeting but who would wish to submit a written comment (maximum 800 words) are also welcome to do so. Any such submission will also be published as indicated above. Contributions should be sent, please, to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Contributions to the discussion can now be viewed here.

Please arrive at around 5.45pm when refreshments will be available and there will be post-meeting drinks to continue the discussion
