Location University of Cambridge, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Wilberforce Rd, Cambridge, CB3 0WA.

About the Event:

An interdisciplinary meeting bringing together the small number of people with an interest, or concern in the topic. Most statisticians receive undergraduate teaching with mathematicians, so this is a professional issue. Developing mathematical tools, ethical responsibilities lie with all actors, not just the application and data context. Professional bodies and employers are starting to show an interest, but society generally lacks the expertise to supervise. An opportunity for extended discussion with speakers over three days. Contact the organiser for an invitation.

Confirmed Speakers (More to come!) :

  • Catherine Buell (Mathematician) - U. Fitchberg
  • Rishi Vyas (Mathematician) - Krea University

  • Clement Mouhot (Mathematician) - U. Cambridge
  • Collin Rittberg (Mathematician/ Philosopher) - U. Vrije
  • Ann-Kristin Glenster (Legal Scholar Specialising in Technology)
  • Ross Anderson (Computer Scientist) - U. Cambridge Unconfirmed
  • Victor Piercey (Mathematician/ Lawyer) - Ferris State U.
  • Martin Hyland (Mathematician) - U. Cambridge Unconfirmed
  • David Spiegelhalter (Mathematician) - U. Cambridge
  • Tam B (Software Developer) - Thoughtworks
  • Maurice Chiodo (Mathematician) - U. Cambridge
  • Glenys Wilson (Psychologist)

We have a number of invited speakers from within mathematics and in other disciplines who will talk about diverse topics. This is a vital interdisciplinary aspect of the workshop; it takes several people from several areas to make this effective.

The workshop will be discussion-based, with "themed" pairs of speakers giving a 30 minute talk each, followed by a long (1 hour) question and discussion session chaired by the two speakers.
