Wednesday 05 July 2017, 03:00pm - 06:00pm

Location The Shard, 32 London Bridge St, London SE1 9SG

Our modern, increasingly digital economy presents a growing number of challenges to economists, statisticians and policy-makers.

Their size and significance were highlighted in the Independent Review of Economic Statistics, led by Professor Sir Charles Bean, published in March 2016.

They stem, in large part, from the importance of the economy’s service sector and the fast-rising levels of investment in intangible assets - compounded by the ongoing digital revolution.

Many economic outputs are increasingly complex and accurate measurement is becoming, accordingly, much more challenging than before.

In this important seminar at the landmark Shard building, in central London, on Wednesday 5th July, the difficulties of measuring service sector activity and intangible assets will be addressed by leading experts in the field.

Organised jointly by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and the Royal Economic Society (RES), the seminar will be addressed by Professor Diane Coyle (University of Manchester, ONS Fellow), Professor Jonathan Haskel (Imperial College, London) and Peter Van de Ven (Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development).

Attendees will also have the opportunity to question these experts and debate the issues concerned.

Tickets are free, but attendees must register in advance here. If the demand for spaces exceeds supply, please note that priority will be given to RSS fellows, RES members, ONS staff and the three organisations’ invited guests.
