2019 Bradford Hill Memorial Lecture

Countering the HIV epidemic: statistical issues in treatment evaluation and policy

Speaker: Dr Michael D. Hughes (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston, MA.)

Abstract: There has been remarkable progress in HIV treatment, changing HIV infection from being a more immediately life-threatening disease to a chronic disease.  Numerous treatments have been evaluated in a long sequence of non-inferiority clinical trials using a surrogate endpoint, and complexities have arisen at the interface of treatment and prevention.  Key policy questions included when during the course of the disease to start treatment, and the extent to which treatment recommendations can be population-based versus personalized.  Dr Hughes will describe some of the interesting statistical issues that have been addressed in advancing treatment for HIV infection.

This lecture is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a reception in the South Courtyard CafĂ©. More information can be found here.
