Associate Professor - Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics

School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (DUBAI)
Salary: 344,480 AED – 399,161 AED
Ref: IRC24454
Closing date: 30th November 2019.

In Dubai we have the largest branch campus of any international university and we were awarded 5 star rating by the Dubai Government (KHDA), one of only three universities to achieve this level. We were also named as the best university in the Middle East by Forbes magazine in 2019.

The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences has been teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science programmes at our Dubai Campus since it opened in 2005. In 2020 the school plans to introduce one of our Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics programmes, the BSc Statistical Data Science, which has been formally approved for delivery in Dubai, having already been offered in Edinburgh and Malaysia for some years. This will necessitate the recruitment of additional staff, starting with a senior staff member with expertise in statistics to lead the development and delivery of this new programme, in close collaboration with colleagues at both the Dubai and Edinburgh campuses.

We are expanding our portfolio of teaching at our Dubai campus and we require an Associate Professor to lead the development of this new programme, starting no later than April 2020. As well as leading and developing the new programme the Associate Professor will also be expected to deliver and assess a range of undergraduate statistics / data science courses at the University’s Dubai Campus. In addition, this position will require the undertaking of administrative duties, involvement in student recruitment activities and the supervision of student projects and dissertations. An interest and background in statistical research either in academia or in industry would be desirable. The successful applicant will hold a postgraduate degree in statistics, data science or a closely related discipline. Previous teaching and leadership experience is essential.

PhD or equivalent in Statistics, Statistical Data Science, or a closely related discipline. (Essential).

Please note that this job description is not exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the grading of the post. Activities may be subject to amendment over time as the role develops and/or priorities and requirements evolve.

The appointment is conditional upon successful completion of all Labour and Immigration formalities, and the start date will need to be delayed if the employment visa is not in place.
