The Western Australia branch of the Statistical Society of Australia Incorporated has a new honour, the Frank Hansford-Miller fellowship, which seeks to foster ties between the local branch and statisticians in the UK. The award incorporates an air fare, accommodation and expenses for a visiting fellow.

The inaugural award was made in September 2013 to Dr Janet Godolphin (pictured) from the University of Surrey, who stayed at the Murdoch University for two weeks, where she met members of the Western Australia SSAI and delivered two lectures. It was the first of what is hoped to be a biennial event following a generous bequest from the late Frank Hansford-Miller, a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society who left England for Western Australia when he retired in 1980.

The next award is expected to be made in 2015. Suitable candidates interested in obtaining a fellowship should seek a sponsor from the WA Branch with whom they may collaborate and make a submission to the Frank Hansford-Miller Fellowship Committee, which is chaired by Dr Brenton Clarke: This email address is being protected from spambots.
