Are you keen to promote good statistical practice in the media? The Royal Statistical Society is currently seeking Fellows who are interested in judging the Excellence in Journalism awards for 2014. Candidates don't need to be particularly eminent or a professionally qualified statistician, but they do need to have enthusiasm and an interest in the way in which statistics is communicated. Judging will take place between May and June, and the commitment is likely to be a few hours of reading articles or watching/listening to excerpts and scoring them.

Dr Jenny Freeman, honorary officer for the Society’s external relations work commented: ‘Volunteers have a lot to gain: a greater stake in the RSS, getting to know other statisticians or people interested in statistics, and you could even read something that sparks an idea!’

If you are interested in finding out more, please register your interest by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. More information on the awards can be found in this article by Jenny Freeman.
