A major European Union funding programme of €79bn is now open to UK businesses and researchers to enable greater innovation in both the public and private sectors. It is the EU's Framework Programme for research and innovation and succeeds its 7th Framework Programme, which provided investment support on research and innovation. Horizon 2020 promises simpler structure than previous programmes with reduced red tape to help new projects to get off the ground quickly.

Comprehensive information on the available programme areas, including distinct schemes for SMEs, can be found on the Horizon 2020 UK website.
