Frances Wood photo wanted

The Society is seeking a photograph of the statistician Frances Wood OBE (1883–1919).

In 2014 the Society will be awarding the new Wood Medal established in her memory, for excellent published contributions to economic or social statistics.  The Society needs to cast a new die for the new medal and are looking to locate a suitable photo of Frances Wood for the prize.

During World War I, Frances Wood worked at the Board of Trade and in the Ministry of Munitions and was awarded an OBE in 1918 for her work. She also investigated the correlation between home conditions and the mental development of children in elementary schools but unfortunately passed away before her research could be completed. She was described in her obituary (published in the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Vol 83, No 1 , Jan 1920) as ‘one of the most promising investigators of our time’.
