The RSS is seeking a new Vice-President for External Affairs and an Honorary Officer for Staffing and Remuneration.
Both roles serve as trustees of the Society and as members of its Executive Committee. The successful candidates will be key players at the heart of the Society, in a position to influence and shape its strategic direction and policy.
The Vice President will lead and coordinate the work of the External Affairs area. As part of the key governance of the Society, they will be working towards the goals in the Society’s strategic plan. However they will have key oversight of 'Strategic Goal One: For statistics to be used effectively in the public interest, so that policy formulation and decision-making are informed by evidence, for the good of society.'
The Honorary Officer for Staffing will work closely with the Executive Director, Hetan Shah. Together, they are responsible for supporting and coordinating the work of the Remuneration and Staffing Committee and for ensuring effective communication with Council. They work to manage the personnel of the Society, including remuneration, conditions of service, appraisal process, staff development and recruitment.
The time commitment varies but averages around ten hours a month, roughly 50% in meetings. The roles are appointed by Council and it would normally be expected that the volunteers would serve for four years.
