New committee members sought for Social Statistics Section

Written by Amaka Nwagbara on . Posted in Latest call-outs to members

The RSS Social Statistics Section is seeking new members to serve on its committee from 2020.

The section is concerned with the collection, dissemination, analysis, and interpretation of statistical data in all fields of social inquiry. We normally organise 3-4 public meetings a year including sessions at the RSS Conference. Recent examples include an event on 'GDPR and surveys', and 'using data to inform suicide and self-harm prevention'. We also organise the annual Cathie Marsh Memorial Lecture in collaboration with Social Research Association.

For the 2020 committee, we particularly welcome female professionals who are keen to contribute new ideas for section activities, actively help organise events and represent the section at meetings. As a committee member, you will get to actively engage with people who are interested in social statistics. We hold three committee meetings per year, which can be attended in person at the Society’s Errol Street offices (travel expenses paid), or remotely by teleconference. Much of our core business is communicated over email.

If you wish to express interest or discuss the role, please send an email (subject line ‘social statistics section committee 2020’) to Amaka Nwagbara at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Thursday 7 November 2019, with a paragraph (up to 250 words) summarising your background, why you would like to join, and what you will contribute to the committee. Please note that to take up a position you will need to be a fellow of the RSS.

The RSS is committed to ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who care about good data and statistics.
