Nominations for the Excellence in Official Statistics Award for 2017 are now open. This award, given in partnership with the UK Statistics Authority, is for anyone working in UK government statistics and rewards good practice, focusing on statistics for the public good.
For the 2017 awards we will be focusing particularly on examples of innovative use of data in support of public policy. We therefore welcome nominations from those involved in public policy development, implementation and monitoring, as well as other users of statistics and the wider public. Recognising and meeting specific needs of users through innovative ways of engaging with them will be included in the criteria for the awards.
Dev Virdee, chair of the organising committee said: 'This is the time to focus on the positive and recognise those who have worked effectively within government to produce the evidence to support public policy. Too often, official statistics can be the subject of negative comment. These awards seek to recognise excellence and encourage the spread of good practice. Our sincere thanks go to Jill Leyland, who has chaired the organising committee brilliantly for the last five years, and who has now passed the baton on to me.'
