Council, the Trustees of the Society, met for the last time in 2016 with a packed agenda.
The meeting was Peter Diggle's last as President after having served for two and a half years. Council proposed a vote of thanks to Peter, praising his passion and deep commitment to the Society, not just during his tenure as President, but for many years before that.
Council first approved the Activity Plan (PDF) and budget for 2017, as well as several other finance-related items including the Society's reserves and investment policies.
In an exciting move forward for the Society, Council also agreed to form a Data Science Section, which will be chaired by Andy Garrett.
Another big development was the agreement to form a Discussion Meetings Committee. This will drive forward new Discussion Meetings (formerly known as Ordinary meetings).
Finally, Council discussed the work of the National Statistics Advisory Group. Council commended the committee on its influence on the debate and encouraged it to continue to engage and broaden its scope as appropriate.
