We are very pleased to announce the second set of winners of the RSS Member Referrals scheme. This time, congratulations are due to RSS members Charlotte Price (pictured) and Liz Buckingham-Jeffrey.
The Member Referrals scheme rewards existing members who encourage a new member to join the Royal Statistical Society. Every time a new member is introduced to the society via the referral scheme, both members are entered into a prize draw to win a year’s free membership.
Charlotte Price is a principal teaching fellow at Warwick Business School (WBS) and has also worked as a statistician at Birmingham Medical School. With research interests in health and social policy, Charlotte is particularly interested in whether decision making tools in the medical world, such as the randomised controlled trial, can be implemented in the world of social science. She is interested in enhancing the public’s understanding of quantitative information and has a background in teaching statistics and critical thinking to non-statistical audiences.
Charlotte referred Liz Buckingham-Jeffrey to become an RSS member; Liz is a PhD student at the University of Warwick, who studies the use of mathematical and statistical methods to analyse data on infectious diseases. She is also interested in the communication of statistics to less specialist audiences, and it was through teaching stats to management students that she met Charlotte Price.
The Member Referrals scheme was launched earlier this year to encourage more members to join our statistical community to strengthen our work promoting the discipline and better use of statistics in society, as well as benefit from the great networking opportunities the Society offers.
The Society will draw another two names at the end of September, so if you know someone interested in joining, make sure they enter your membership number into the online joining form, and you will both be entered into the prize draw.
More information on how the scheme works can be found on the www.rss.org.uk/refer page.
