The RSS is pleased to confirm that it has selected the following to be RSS’s second cohort of statistical ambassadors:

Aoibheann Brady, University of Bath
Johanna Hutchinson, UK Statistics Authority
Liam Brierley, University of Edinburgh
Liberty Vittert, University of Glasgow
Michael Dunne-Willows, Newcastle University
Penelope Donohue, Forestry Commission
Rhian Davies, Lancaster University
Simon White, MRC Biostatistics Unit Cambridge
Susan Connolly, MRC Biostatistics Unit Cambridge
Todd Hartman, University of Sheffield

The ten ambassadors join last year’s cohort of 12 and will receive training and support over the next year to help them improve their skills and confidence in talking about statistics in public – to the media, schools and wider public.

RSS president elect David Spiegelhalter, who is also Winton Professor of the Public Understanding of Risk at the University of Cambridge, said: 'This was a tricky decision as we had so many fine applicants, but we are delighted with our new cohort of Ambassadors. They have a wide range of backgrounds and skills, and we're confident they will do a great job in promoting statistics.'

Last year’s cohort were interviewed on BBC News and spoke to various newspapers including the Metro and the Sun, explaining the statistics behind the National Lottery. They have also participated at public events, and written for StatsLife and Significance magazine.

Training for the new cohort starts on 20 May 2016 here’s what happened at last year’s training day.
