Yesterday Council approved the recommendation put forward by the Joint Assessment Committee (JAC) of the RSS and PSI (Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry) to move ahead with plans for a merger on the basis that the two organisations would be stronger together. This follows a due diligence process conducted by the JAC over the past months as was announced previously.
The proposal calls for the activities of PSI to come into the RSS mainly through the creation of a Pharmaceutical Section. The suggested date for the merger is the beginning of 2018. Council took the view that PSI’s activities are a good fit with the RSS’s own strategy and activities, and so are a natural extension of what we already do.
The proposal will be going to the PSI Board of Directors for their decision in mid-April. If agreed by the PSI Board it will go to the PSI membership for approval via a special general meeting in the autumn as the decision implies a major change for PSI.
We will post an update once the recommendations go to the PSI Board of Directors.
UPDATE, 10 May 2016: The PSI board of directors voted 10-4 to bring to the membership a proposal for merger of PSI into the RSS. PSI members have the opportunity to put questions to the BoD and representatives of the RSS at two forthcoming meetings - one at the PSI AGM in Berlin, 23 May and a second at the RSS (and online) on 12 July. PSI members will vote on the merger in September.
