Council met for the third time in 2015 on Wednesday 25 November.
Main items considered were approval of the budget and the activity plan for 2016. A final version of the plan will be posted on Statslife later this month. Council approved investment from reserves towards development of the new accreditation model and online training courses.
Council also discussed data science and how to best embrace this emerging area across the breadth of Society activities. It agreed to set up a partnership with the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and more information on opportunities for fellows in this area will be communicated to the membership as this new initiative becomes established.
It has been two years since the RSS Strategy review and the changes to the governance structure of the Society and Council discussed how these changes were working. Council was content with the oversight they had as trustees of the Society.
Trevor Llanwarne was approved as the Society’s new Honorary Treasurer from March next year. He will be taking over the reins from Ed Swires-Hennessy who has served for the past four years.
Council will next meet in March 2016.
