Council, the Trustees of the Society, met for the first time in 2017 on 22 March in what was a very productive session.
The meeting was David Spiegelhalter’s first Council meeting as President and he praised the work of the staff, especially in influencing public policy.
First, Council members had a detailed discussion about the ISO 10404 Sector Scheme. Council was supportive.
Council agreed that the Society should develop a new strategy this year, led by Executive Committee, and within our existing strategic framework.
In an exciting development, Council approved the creation of a History of Statistics Section.
There was also an in-depth discussion about membership policy and what should be done going forward.
Last, but by no means least, Council agreed that Professor Deborah Ashby would be their nominee for President for 2019-20. This will go to the membership for election.
