European Statistics Day will be commemorated on October 20, themed this year around The Value of Official Statistics as a Public Good. The day is commemorated annually around Europe in the four years between each World Statistics Day and aims to raise awareness of the importance of official statistics.
In the UK, the RSS will be marking ESD 2017 with several events. We are hosting a meeting on October 19,‘The ethical use of statistics’, featuring our vice-president Jen Rogers, and the BBC’s Anthony Reuben, as speakers.
On the day itself, we are hosting a Data Science Summit at the Society’s London headquarters, with speakers including the Turing Institute’s Mark Girolami. As well as that we are also due to publish an important guide on ‘Statistics and Probability for Advocates’ - a joint venture with Inns of Court College of Advocacy; further details of which to come in a separate announcement.
Many other events are being organised around the EU this year, including a major conference in Brussels, Power From Statistics, which can be followed via live streaming.
