RSS launches Nigeria local group

Written by Web News Editor on . Posted in News

The RSS is delighted to announce the launch of a new local group outside of the UK, in Nigeria.

The local group is based around the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta in Ogun State, Nigeria and is chaired by Olaniyi Olayiwola (pictured below), a senior lecturer in statistics at the university whose current research centres around climate modelling. The local group’s secretary Olawumi Olatunde works at the National Bureau of Statistics and its treasurer is from the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, so the group has a wide range of interests represented.

The group aims to organise an annual programme of events and talks on statistical topics to engage the statistical community and bring together people with an interest in statistics.

RSS Membership engagement manager Amaka Nwagbara said: 'It's great to have set up this new group for RSS members outside of the UK and we hope it is the first of many more.

Over the course of the next few months, we’ll be featuring members of the group and their activities on our website and in our next printed ‘Member Update’ due out early 2019 – watch this space!'
